In mid-2022, a mixed reality (MR) headset is reported to be on Apple, while its rumoured Agrandised-Reality (AR) glasses could be released three years after it was released in 2025. And if you hold out for the intelligent lenses of touch we heard, be careful. They could not fall until 2030, or even 2040.
The announcement comes from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose business connections have helped him call the headlines over the years.
“We predict that Apple’s MR/AR product roadmap includes three phases: helmet type by 2022, glasses type by 2025, and contact lens type by 2030–2040,” Kuo wrote in a research note obtained by MacRumors.
The production team from Apple works on a variety of prototype for their MR headset, each with a size from 200 to 300 g. The fact that some sources have indicated that the Apple headset will resemble the 503 grammes of Oculus Quest 2, recently launched in Facebook may be lighter.
The first Apple MR headset rumoured hardware specifications include 8K Screens, Apple Silicon Processors that are identical to the M1 chip currently being used in the MacBook portfolio, up to a decade of hand and eye tracking cameras and lidar captors, and good battery life.
With regard to pricing, Kuo says that it would probably come at approximately $1,000, which is a third of the value in a recent information survey.
